More than 100,000 people have died with Covid-19 in the UK, after 1,631 deaths within 28 days of a positive test were recorded in the daily figures.

Hong Kong's social distancing

 With the fourth wave showing no signs of subsiding in Hong Kong, the government has announced extension of social distancing measures until January 20, 2021. Ban on dining services after 6pm will remain, and all other facilities that have been required to shut their doors temporarily – like bars, gyms, sports venues, beauty salons, cinemas, and massage parlours – will remain closed to the public. In addition, suspension of face-to-face classes for schools will continue until the end of the Lunar New Year holiday.

Brexit: UK and EU new era

 The UK stopped following EU rules as replacement arrangements for travel, trade, immigration and security co-operation came into force. Boris Johnson said the UK had "freedom in our hands" and the ability to do things "differently and better" now the long Brexit process was over. But opponents of leaving the EU maintain the country will be worse off.
